Ricardo Galán

San Fernando, Cádiz (1956)

Ricardo Galán Urréjola started his career in art at a very young age. He attended the workshop of the painter Torres Brú in Cadiz, later he studied at the faculty of Fine Arts, “Santa Isabel de Hungría” in Seville. Years later he showed interest for the art of engraving at the School of Fine Arts in Olót, Gerona. He obtained a degree in History at the University of Cadiz. Since 1991 Galán also taught at the secondary school IES Sidón. Currently he divides his activities between working in education and a very busy and productive creative life as a painter. He is involved with several art galleries and his work has reached some countries within the European Union and America. Since mid 2011 he has been preparing a research project that focuses on the esthetic and conceptual relation between the great cities of the European Union. This relation serves as a connective vehicle between young art students of the E.U.

Galán’s project will be represented in a collection of twenty seven large works of art that will capture the images of these cities.
The urban landscape is the main object in the work he has produced over the last years. Galán’s work originates from a composition that maintains the accents of his early baroque apprenticeship and unites with elements of the abstract expressionism. This gives his work a dynamic and genuine quality.
